Schedule an Intro to CrossFit/Fitness Assessment
You are looking at this page for a reason. You’ve decided to make a change and we are here to help you on your journey. Send us an email to firstname.lastname@example.org or call 603.736.0200 to schedule your first complimentary session. You can do it alone or you can bring a friend. The session lasts 60 minutes and we will cover the CrossFit methodology and evaluate your current fitness levels. More importantly you will be on the path to making yourself awesome.
Step 2: Fundamentals. All new members must go through one of our fundamentals programs: either our one-on-one On-Ramp program or our small group Beginner’s Class.
Option 1: On-Ramp. Our On-Ramp typically consists of 8 one-on-one sessions with a personal trainer to teach you the basic movements of CrossFit in a thorough, step by step fashion. You’ll book your sessions directly with your trainer, and will have the most flexibility to quickly get through the On-Ramp and into our Regular Classes. The On-Ramp costs $50 per session per person.
Option 2: Beginner’s Class. Our Beginner’s Class meets on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 7 pm. You’ll pay a monthly membership of $124, and can expect to stay in the Beginner’s Class until you are comfortable enough in the movements and methods of Battle CrossFit to transition into our Regular Classes.
Regardless of which option you choose, we have 3 goals that you must meet before coming into our Regular Classes: 1) Be unscared! CrossFit can be intimidating, and our first goal is to teach you in a controlled environment so that you are confident in yourself. 2) Know the movements. We’re going to hand you a book that has 30-40 movements in it. We’d like you to know those movements before moving into the Regular Classes. 3) Be familiar with our gym, our coaches, and the structure of our Regular Classes.
Which option is best for you? It depends on a variety of things. Schedule your intro session and discuss your options with a coach!
When you have graduated from your personal training sessions and you are now competent in the CrossFit movements, you are free to begin group classes.
During these group classes, you’ll push yourself alongside like-minded people as you compete with yourself. You will undoubtedly find yourself doing things you never thought possible. You will lift heavier things, run faster than before, and see muscles you did not know were there. You will also find yourself with a new social and support network around you. The Battle CrossFit family will help encourage and support you on your journey to better health and happiness.
At each class you will have one coach (often times apprentices too) walking you through the workout to help refine your skills. We will ensure you are getting technical coaching as everyone in the class improves their CrossFit and fitness abilities.
We’re in this together and for your long-term health and fitness! We routinely offer nutrition challenges and specialty classes to continue your progress and ensure you’re getting fitter in the ways that are important for you.
Your coach will meet with you and follow-up frequently with goals and your progress. You can schedule one-on-one sessions with any of our coaches to further work on your goals!
All new members must go through our On-Ramp Program – please check out the “Getting Started” page, and Schedule links for costs and hours.
Yes! We offer individualized personal training for Kids of all ages. Our Regular Classes are typically reserved for Kids 10 and over, after a thorough series of Personal Training sessions to prepare them for the rigors of CrossFit training.
Numerous clients of ours have come through the doors with previous injuries or tweaks and found relief from the pain by strengthening the muscles around the problem area. All too often people neglect exercising their low back due to fear of injury. Because of this they end up de-conditioned, weak, and more susceptible to injury in the future from minor mishaps which is usually what happens. Taking part in CrossFit will provide you a buffer so that you are less susceptible to these kinds of injuries. The movements and workouts are all completely scalable allowing anyone to take part.
Yes, this is absolutely what we strongly believe in. More and more research shows that shorter duration/higher intensity workouts yield higher benefits/results. Basically, it just boils down to hard work. But the truth is, the longer the effort the lower our intensity. If you run 10 miles your intensity (power output) will be lower than if you run multiple 400 meter sprints. CrossFit does go beyond 30 min on occasion, but the majority of our workouts are shorter in duration. If you have a shorter workout, you can work harder by nature which can lend to a better response, especially combined with the movements we do. No matter who you are or what workouts you do, without hard work you will not receive results, which is why we encourage you to work to the limits of your physiological and psychological tolerances.
In order for people to get bigger, especially women, there are two things that you would have to make a concerted effort to do. One: pick up very heavy weight on a frequent basis. This is not something we do. Yes, we are very much concerned about your strength and we do lift heavy some days. But this is not our main focus. Two: eat an extremely high calorie diet. For most to gain productive muscle mass takes quite the effort in eating the right foods in a high amount. This is also something that we do not focus on. The majority of the workouts we do provide your muscles with more contractile potential and not hypertrophy (meaning that we attempt to make you stronger, not just build your muscle mass).
You can injure yourself in any activity, but CrossFit is more safe than many activities people perform every day. We like to work with people in 3 stages. First: mechanics (learning how to do the movements with correct technique), Second: Consistency (the ability to do the movements over and over again with safe and relatively efficient technique), Third: Intensity (the speed and/or weight at which you do the movements). We always start with Mechanics, and then Consistency. Only when you have proven to be able to move safely and efficiently do we add the component of Intensity.
This is a common misconception. The most elite athlete can come into the gym and find a workout challenging. You will never be “fit” enough. That’s why we are here and offer scaling options for each individual so that you can thrive in each workout on a personal level. Fitness is a lifelong journey, we are never really “there”. We have grandmothers working out right next to our collegiate athletes, and they are both getting a good workout! Anyone really can do it. “You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.”
Every day at our gym is like a personal training session. While you can go to a big franchise gym and pay $10 per month, you will not receive any instruction on movements or have any guidance on what constitutes a good workout, unless you pay for personal training on top of your membership. These personal training sessions at other gyms cost as much as $100 per HOUR. Our rates are actually less expensive than any other group led workout programs in our local area. The reality is with the quality of instruction you get from our trainers, it is personal training at a fraction of the cost.
CrossFit is as hard as you make it. One of my favorite quotes is from Thomas Paine: “That which we obtain too easily, we esteem too lightly.” Just like any workout regime, you will get out of it what you put into it. We encourage people to push to the limits of their own tolerances but only you can make the most out of your own workouts with the amount of work you put into them.
Of course! Thanks for being part of our community and taking part. We invite you to post your scores in our comments section, as we’d like to follow your progress as well. I started my own CrossFit journey by following other gyms’ programs – but not until I personally got into a gym and received quality instruction from experienced trainers did I really see the true potential of CrossFit programming. Most people are not taught how to move correctly and don’t know how to teach themselves. While I did my best to learn, it was a pale comparison to what I learned inside of a gym. You are automatically making yourself more susceptible to injury and leveling off in your gains by trying to do this on your own. It is also infinitely more fun when you are encouraged and held accountable by a group of your peers. Plus you won’t have someone cheering you on in your basement or local gym, like you have at Battle CrossFit.
CrossFit.com provides excellent programming. At Battle CrossFit, we take the same approach with constantly varied movements and workouts. We choose to offer workouts that may be more easily scaled in group settings and address some of the needs/desires of our community. You are guaranteed to have at least one day/week be heavy loading to help address strength demands. We also like to provide people with a longer workout each week so they can get their “endurance” bug fed. Another approach that we have is to address weaknesses the gym may have as a whole. Things like overhead squats, Olympic lifting, or basic technique with bodyweight movements. Our philosophy is the same as HQ (constantly varied, functional movement at high intensity). We just try to meet some more specific needs of our community.
